Hi, I'm a 39 year old single female relocating to Jonesboro to atend graduate school. I'd like to find a decent apartment (with washer and dryer!) somewhere in the area, but because I will be unable to actually see the apartment until after I have rented it (I'm in Oregon now and can't afford to fly out just to look at apartments), I was wondering if anyone could tell me which apartments complexes are safe and decent? I'd also live in Paragould or some of the other small towns nearby, as well.

Thanks so much!

I can help you with this. I lived in Jonesboro for 12 years and know all about the area. First, the apartments that come to mind that you need to stay away from are the grove apartments, the villas and breckenridge apartments. I do not know all the names of the ones in the bad areas but these are a few. Just steer clear of anything off of Johnson ave. or north of Johnson which is called apartment city. Stay away!

Your best bet would be to try to live in the southern part of Jonesboro(south of the bypass) which kind of sucks because the college is in the north part. It's not necessarily a huge town though so your commute is not bad, maybe 15 minutes to the college from this area. The Links and the Gladiola Estates are nice and safe enough, although even these have gone downhill, sad to say but much like most of Jonesboro. It's still a great town though and you learn to love it there!

Hope this helps atleast a little. I know you posted this over a week ago, but if you have any questions about anything I can help.

Just thought of some good ones. I don't know the names of these either(sorry!) but there are several apartment complexes off of Harrisburg rd. (north of the bypass) that are great. I had lots of friends live in these and they always seemed nice and safe. This area, which is also where the Links and the Gladiolas are located would be the best in my opinion. Maybe someone else on here can help me with the names!
Good Luck!

Thanks for your response, I appreciate it although I didn't see it until after I got an apartment. I found one near the airport, off of East Highland, it isn't brilliant, but it is in a four-plex, rather than a large apartment complex. The neighborhood seems ok, but it's not really what I was hoping for. Unfortunately, I had only two days to find a place after flying in, and some of the places I saw were just scary.

One of the "apartment" buildings was actually a converted motel (Courtyard something or other), and I know the blood must have left my face when I realized that this was where I was a assured that a "nice, well maintained and totally just perfect for you, miss" was supposed to be waiting for me. I saw another place that smelled like rodents, and two people got into a fist fight in the parking lot as I was leaving. In the end, I settled for a four-plex that that seems well maintained and nowhere near the areas I was advised to be wary of. I hope it's safe; it is well south of E. Johnson, and several miles south of the University.

Thanks again, it's always pleasant when people post honest answers!

Kind regards
