I've seen several nice properties that are advertised as bordering government land or strip. I've never heard of this before.
What are the pros and cons of owning property adjacent to government strip? Thank you.

"Government" doesn't narrow down the field much. I'd want to know a lot more about which agency at what level of government before trying to predict that strip's potential future (and consequently who or what my "neighbor" could end up being!). Could be anything from an undeveloped conservation easement (nice bit of greenspace) to a public utility power station (24/7/365 noise) to a city wastewater treatment pond (stink) to a police firing range (random high speed projectiles)! OK, written partly in jest, but before buying any piece of land I find out who or what owns the parcel next to what may be my house!

Always good to know who the neighbors will be. In my case my farm in the Ozarks was at the end of a county road, nearest neighbor was 2 miles away, and my acreage was bordered on 3 sides by the Buffalo National River. Couldn't ask for better neighbors....It was perfect.

Several counties, mostly in western Arkansas, have large percentages of National Forest lands. Lots of places have farms and ranches that butt up against those lands. I assume this is what they are referring to. The pros would be no neighbors. The cons might be "land management" practices, and in certain times of year, public use (such as hunting) that you can't do anything about .

I would think that it would be mostly pros on the balance.

This is very good advice. Thank you all for your thoughts.
The reason I asked is because you never know in the future how land usage may change. I have seen it change drastically where I am now.
One thing we plan on doing before we buy our next place is to knock on the doors of the folks around us who would be neighbors and say hello.
Thanks again.

excellent idea to visit the neighbors! (i actually did this several times before buying a property and it gives you a lot more perspective, plus you already know your neighbors if you do make the purchase)
