Yeah, I can see that.

The UAE is one of the few places where they still have debtors prisons, so I would be very weary of just living/working there let alone investing there.

There are several TV stations from the Emirates that belong to a single municipality / city and stream online as well as broadcast globally by free-to-air satellite. In fact, for Dubai there are multiple, including a sports channel and an (at least partially) English channel.

Abu Dhabi is probably the most recognizable city in the Emirates next to Dubai. Other than that, there's Sharjah, Fujairah, and a few others.

UAE is very wealthy new and modern nation. Dubai is amazing, and I will visit it one day. Breathtaking skyline, nice malls and everything.

Wealthy, yes. Modern, no. No country that abuses migrant labor in such a fashion could be called modern, migrant labors practically have no rights in the UAE. If there's one place that I hope rising sea waters engulf, it's the UAE.

Dubai almost looks like a space colony on Mars or something.

Lived in Al Ain for a few years many years ago.

"Western" expats in the country generally tend to lead a charmed life, but as with any foreign country are encouraged to be mindful of and careful re: local laws and customs.

The UAE is a Middle Eastern country renowned for its diverse economy, modern infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and desert landscapes. In UAE, Dubai is so amazing, but living there is quite expensive. However, if you earn better, the expense isn't a big deal.
