Not visited any island from the poll yet but Koh Chang seems the most interesting.
Most of the other islands seem too small after a couple days.
I think Koh Lipe has the clearest water but lacks nightlife.
Koh Tao and Koh Phangan are known as Mafia islands, there are many stories where tourists got killed.
Koh Phi Phi is overrated imo, i was there in 2012, way too many people in a small area and too many boats in the bay. I guess it was nice before DiCaprio made a film there.

I don't think it is any safer than Ko Tao -- not to mention being prone to dengue fever.

It is my first time, I see phuket all over the place, and most likely will end up there.

I know Pattaya isn't an island, or is it? Either way, what can you tell me about this town?

Which one would be better, as I'm planning to get some real beach time and rest when I'm by the ocean.

I never understood the concept of going to a country with such magnificent culture and history...and then spending it at a resort island laying on a beach chair. Seems like a waste. A European/Australian "thing" that I just don't get.

However if you are into that then Koh Samui in Southeast Thailand seems the new place to go but I guess you mentioned that in your title.
Pattaya I've heard is pretty sleazy.

Agreed, I'm hoping/planning to spend around 4/5 days in bangkok to explore and do some cool stuff, already have activities lined up such as MMA fight, golden buddha temple, get some tailored suits, night bicycle tour, etc....

Also I'll be coming to thailand from a 2 and half week Europe tour, so before I head home I'm hoping to put aside a full week of relaxation after some bangkok exploring, otherwise if I just need a week off I would book a carribean island and in 4 hours lay beach side....

Ideas and good places to check out thats easy to get to are appreciated!
