Easter....... For those unfamiliar , the short version is I am an open un apologizing Atheist in a VERY religious family... I do not bend in my "non belief , not even for funerals to bow my head at prayer and it KILLS certain members.. So I recive these any kind of religious holiday.. They're great fire starters wrapped in dryer lint!!!
So I told my stepmother i was perhaps going to send her a thank you card simply saying I'm glad shes thinking of us and thank you for the card but I feel like perhaps she doesn't need to write all that (put in a nice way) as we are non believing (a reminder to her)
I was told
" She's allowed to send those cards cause she's religious and means well, you're Atheist you don't mean well you just want to prove a point"
So I'll be ordering some Atheist Christmas cards this year.... talk about a double standard! So I should be okay being preached to cause its all in good will.... Yea right!!!
I'm also openly atheist in a sort-of-religious family. They don't give me too much grief, and I don't mind showing up for Easter dinner because my family can cook VERY well.

See, now this is why we need some Atheist Holidays. Presently we enjoy no designated day for honoring non believers while the religious have a several. Consequently all of the opportunities to bombard the other side with "good will" propaganda belong to the deists.
We should lobby Congress until we get our holiday. I'm open for ideas as to what that day should be. February 12th is Darwin's birthday, but then that is also Lincoln's birthday. July 21st, the day the Scopes Monkey trial was decided? November 9th, Carl Sagan's birthday?
Once the holiday is in place, then Sweetbottoms can send Margaret, Kay and Jake a card with quotes about religion by from famous atheists. Perhaps if a present is in order, the latest book by Richard Dawkins or Bart Ehrman.
Location: Sitting on a bar stool. Guinness in hand.
