Decent watch.....Atheists are quite open minded,etc....... You can talk to them about ANYTHING and they wont poke fun, judge you,etc.......... Probably cause they are not limiting themselves to one way of thinking??

Yes, that anecdotal evidence equals data.

Clever editing hatchet job. If you think the person who edited this down didn't cherry pick, for instance, pz myers...

And the interviewer persists in asking the wrong question. If you don't ask the right question, you'll never get anywhere.

I am pretty sure most americans believe oj killed nicole. Yet there is no eyewitness of either the actual killing or oj's actions immediately afterward.

So why do most most americans believe in oj's guilt (apparently even his own kids)? Because the pattern of the evidence we have best fits the hypothesis that it was oj, and not some still-not-identified drug dealer, who killed her.

My atheism does not rest on the validity or invalidity of evolutionary theory. It rests more on the utterly preposterous nature of the religious explanations which have been advanced. Even if it was discovered that evolution hasn't been at work as we believe it has, that would not rehabilitate the Garden of Eden story, or any other absence of evidence assertions by the religious minded.

It is very revealing, is it not, that religion seems to have no problems at all with other scientific doctrines which enjoy no more absolute proof than does evolution. How do we know the distance to the stars? No one has left the planet with a measuring tape or paced it off, that knowledge relies on extrapolations and applications from what we know about the speed of light and the radioactivity of matter.

So how come there aren't any objections to that from the religious community? How come the only application of scientific principles which they find objectionable is the one which invalidates their Geneses myths?

Grandstander, you are right - atheism does not turn on current evolutionary theory.

I think the problem fundies have with evolution is that they have hung their hats on the literal eden story because it is critical to their whole pov. Unlike, for instance, joshua stopping the world in its tracks by raising his hands.

The pov? Humans disobeyed a direct order from god, therefore are inherently evil, therefore must live according to bronze age mores, and still require a blood sacrifice for god to even like them.

Wow! That is amazing! Over 150 years of rigorous science backed by mountains of paperwork overthrown by none other than Ray Comfort!

Ray Comfort is well known for insisting on his own version of evolution that is very different from what science says and then trying to point out people's failures to respond to his questions about it. These questions set up his interviewees for failure from the very beginning. By insisting on evolution as some force that magically converts one species to another overnight, any question posed to these people in that context is going to make them look stupid when they answer from the context of actual science.

It's like a policeman deciding he's going to start writing tickets for people walking too fast. Despite there being no law against walking any specific speed, his first question is always "Do you have any idea how fast you were going?" To which, the people not knowing the context or why he's asking, will almost always flub the answer.

A lot of the people in this video are very well respected scientists and experts in their field. There is no reason whatsoever to believe the questions asked of them were too difficult other than perhaps being very, very misleading and very, very edited.

So that was a ray comfort production?? I've heard about him, but never bothered to look him up, since nothing anyone ever said about him piqued my interest in the least. What a tool.
