He is calmly, stoically, and admirably preparing for his last journey. He checks in periodically via FB to let his friends know he's still finding joy in being on the planet.
Good to know and thanks for the update!
I really admirable how he is still so positive. I hope he stays with us until the end of Ramadan to celebrate the Eid.
my scariest encounters happen every time i meet a "religious" person that bases their belief on "how it affects me", "labels put on others", "limited to literal meaning", and "team unity". Even when observations don't point to a statement of belief about god being the most valid stance.
the bombing of that mosk is a good example of the ones that scare me.
One of my adult violin students is an 89 y.o. ex-Navy guy, studied voice for a decade or more, widowed, pretty spry and not a bad musician. He is also a devout Christian, Trump supporter and conservative on every issues. He frequently espouses his views at lessons, assuming I agree with him. I sits mute.
His latest: he's absolutely sure all Democrats will not be allowed in heaven. He previously told me that Democrats hate Jews and that Democrats approve of murdering babies--after birth!
Otherwise he functions well, has a job, lives alone, drives, sings in church, has a girlfriend.

After a menial position in the U.S. Navy most of his adult life, he's worked as a janitor and as a teacher's aide. Those are all honorable work, and somebody has to do those jobs. So yes, it does take all kinds.
He's taken a lot of music lessons but otherwise no formal education beyond high school. Is it hard to see how easy it is to associate religiosity with this type of personal history and mental capacity?
Not crazy, but uncomfortable. I left my job, but maintained a few relationships with customers. One nice woman and I met for lunch once. I am religious, but I’m uncomfortable with public displays. This woman, not only had to say grace, but every other thing out of her mouth was to thank the lord for this and that. It was hard to carry on a normal conversation. We are in touch on FB, but haven’t seen each other since.
