Okay, but if it's pagan in origin why is that any better from an atheistic standpoint? Not meaning to bash, just curious.
Roman paganism was full of irrational superstitions and foolish notions. It gave fathers excessive control of their daughters, killed women if they broke their vow to be a "Vestal Virgin", and never let a woman be Caesar. (The successor Byzantine Christian Empire did have an Empress at one point or two) The Romans also destroyed entire villages of Celts, killed Archimedes (albeit by accident and with embarrassment), crucified Spartacus, and had a massive slave trade. So if it's the Roman pagan festival to getting drunk, and probably chasing women, is that really better from a rational perspective?
Did you just state this? It is exactly what the bible is full of. Moreso.
I dont celebrate christmas from any religious view. My husbands family is pagan, so I have seen and been to some festivals and things, but other than that, it is a time with family and friends, to enjoy winter and celebrate each other. I love Christmas.
