You can't find Louis Vitton or Kate Spade in Atlanta? I would have assumed they'd have stores at Phipps/Lenox and probably other malls as well.

I was being sarcastic - of course you can - much like you find Kate Spade and Louis Vuitton everywhere. I wouldn't consider either of those brands..."fashion-forward".

i just want to point out that i never claimed one city was WAY ahead of the other when it comes to fashion or that one city had better dressers. never said any of that. all i was pointing out is that fashion is more a part of dallas' history than atlanta's and that there are some significant differences in high end retail availability

dallas is arguably the premier shopping city in the south, outside of miami

I don't care what anybody says; I've been to Dallas too many times and still to this day, I've never been impressed with the fashions there. Only Dallasites will consider themselves fashionable; they have tons of upscale stores there, but the people of Dallas just don't know how to rock it right.

This is coming from a native Texan and someone who loves Dallas.

This exactly...with that typical big sister insight I've come to respect from you Lovin'. I mean seriously, having x number of stores means zilch. It's where the fashion scene itself "is" that matters.

I'm a resident of Dallas and love your blog because I used to live in Atlanta.

It's funny how Dallas, a city that is very much like Atlanta in its layout (requiring the majority of the population to utilize their cars), is much more successful in bringing new fashion lines to the public. The several existing nodes of high-end retail in Dallas far exceed Atlanta in terms of flagship offerings, international boutiques, and local boutiques that carry all the latest in little-known couture.

The closures of these boutiques (referring to a recently shuttered store in Buckhead) prove that Atlanta is not (and probably will never be) as sophisticated and stylish as the other cities that it shares the top 10 metro population list with. A recent visit to Atlanta included a loop around Lenox Mall on a Saturday and, without trying to make any judgements as to race, NO one was buying Louis Vuitton or Kate Spade and the people that would buy them wouldn't attempt to go to that mall given the crowd I saw. Bakers Shoes and Aeropostale, however, were packed.

I also made my first trip to the Mall of Georgia. Can I just say that I'm surprised that Nordstrom and A/X are okay with being neighbors to a tacky urban-clothing store? Is that indicative of the direction of what was otherwise a beautiful mall (with lots of vacancies).

I hate to be critical, but clearly Dallas (and even Houston) have a residential retail market that are willing to take more risks than Atlantans.

Interesting. Do the Texas cities have more money to spend and a more progressive attitude towards fashion than Atlanta?

I think there's a few factors in the equation here.

First of all, the Great Recession has hit Georgia much harder than Texas. From what I have read, Texas financial institutions have much stricter lending practices than banks in Georgia. Georgia has about the highest number of bank failures in the country.

I've traveled in Texas extensively and I've been in every major Texas city except Fort Worth which is part of the Metroplex area.

When you visit Texas, what immediately becomes quite apparent are the beautiful women and the handsome men. At least that was the case when I was last in the state.

Since I was last there, Texas has had a lot of demograhic changes but I doubt if a lot of ugly people are now calling Texas home. Not too many. Maybe a few.

To a large extent the fashion industry revolves around looks. Overweight bow-wows just don't focus too much attention on fashion. Not too many of them are buying expensive, designer clothes.

Very beautiful women, such as the women you see in Texas a lot, generally have a keen interest in fashion and they spend hours purchasing stylish clothes, etc. Many of the women in Dallas are dressed like a million bucks. You don't see that here in Atlanta so much.

I do think Atlanta women, compared to Dallas women, do fall a bit short in the looks department. That's probably a factor as to why Atlanta falls a bit short, too, in the fashion department. Yes, fashion here does not play as large a role in our lives as Dallas.

I do wish Americans didn't focus so much on looks but we do. And ditto for fashion. Spending a lot of money on designer clothes is really foolish.

It’s funny how someone can say something subjective and people response to it as if was fact. This thread is kind of loaded, exaggerated and misleading.

Exaggerate, both of these cities are consider fashion capital, but people are making Dallas like Pairs and Atlanta like Jacksonville.
Misleading, is Dallas even ahead of Atlanta? That questionable itself? Does Dallas has more fashion events?
Loaded, posters are actually responding as if the exaggerate statements are true and are actually stating a subjective cause. )
Now the Dallas posters that are coming and bosting are just funny. Umm no I once lived out there in DFW and I do see an error with in your comment. beside the subjectiveness, Atlanta is a major center for models especially in urban culture, LMAO so that can't be true.

Earlier I mint to say “Ok this debate is silly” not Ok this is debate a silly
