Anyone know of a hiking club that allows you to bring your dog with you on hikes? We love to hike in the North Georgia and North Carolina mountains. We would love to get together with other people that like to hike with their dogs. Thanks!

Google "Dog Hikers Of Georgia" and follow the directions.

I haven't been out with the group in the last couple of months, so I suppose there's a slim possibility it has suddenly ceased to exist, but that seems unlikely since it's been going for years and years. This is a really nice group and outing. The only thing wrong with it is that it precludes Sunday morning church attendance. I've been mostly doing church on Sundays, lately.

You might try:

--meetup.com
I found many dog groups--LOL--those with small dogs seem to get together in NW Atlanta, FWIW.

--Sierra Club

--Atlanta Humane Society/and/or breed specific groups--

--Creative Loafing/Atlanta's Leisure Guide

--Silver Comet Trail??? --must be a website somewhere where people discuss things like this.

I meet with a group every Sat. morning at 9:30 to walk our dogs. The walks start at 9:30 and I get home by 12:00. Some days we will have 15 to 20 dogs running and playing. I have met a lot of great people on the walks as an added bonus. Starting at 9:30 on Sat morning it is usually just the walkers, but they tell stories of nude sunbather. I haven't seen any yet, but my eyes are so bad everbody looks nude. The area we walk is off NC 751 at the nature overlook. I park in the station across the street but most of the people drive SUV's and park along the road. It is a lot of fun for dogs and owner too.

Default New Club

If anyone is interested I am starting a new outdoor club for Atlanta. I'd like to host some hikes for dog owners as well and am looking for a volunteer to lead these. I can help with planning and coordination through my site.

We'll be doing a lot more than hikes also - anything outdoors including hiking, biking, canoe/kayaking, climbing, backpacking, and more.

It's not exactly a hiking club-
It's a "Drinking Club With a Running Problem"!
Not all runs are 4-legged friendly- but they usually let you know if it is.

So, if you love beer, running, a little camaraderie, an altogether good social experience, give AH4 a try! Did I mention the beer? There's lots of beer! There's a little running if... but, there's lots of beer when you get to the end. And then, if you choose- there's more beer.
Don't forget about the beer!
