I've been here since early December. I'm living in a corp housing in Dunwoody until the house sells. My company is in Sandy Springs at Abernathy Road and GA400. Each day I'm enjoying the big city and getting to know the way around town.

While I'm here, I'm scouting the area. So far I'm drawn to Roswell. Recently, I asked a co-worker what he thought of Roswell. He warned me to stay away from Fulton county because the northern portion of Fulton county might split and be called Milton or something like that. I asked a realtor about it yesterday when she shown me houses...she said she has been a resident for 25 years and she has heard about it off and on. She said she wouldn't worry about it.

Residents of Fulton county - what are your thoughts on this? It is a good idea to split the county into 2? If the county does split, does it mean more taxes for the new county? Should we be looking at other counties?

I agree... The debate itself doesn't need a new thread and should go back to the other thread. Other posters on this forum have already talked about this an exhaustive amount.

I will add this one thing for your personal situation, though. You shouldn't need to worry about buying a home there, because it might become Milton.

a) This has been debated on and off my whole life and nothing ever happened

b) Most of spawns from internal debates that people in N. Fulton (Milton) are wealthier and were subsidizing the S. Part of the county. This has been mostly fixed by changes in tax structure. Unincorporated S. Fulton now pays a higher tax rate on property that generally isn't as valuable, while N. Fulton now has city taxes to Alpharetta, Milton, and Johns Creek.

c) if N. Fulton does break off to become Milton... An economic study showed they will be able to be sustainable with their current level of services, so there doesn't need to be much fear it would harm land values, schools, taxes, etc...

Your choice to buy or not buy there should probably be oriented so to whether or not you like the area as it is now. There are other suitable places to live around town that are worth looking into, but you shouldn't have to ignore N. Fulton because of this issue.
