What is your favorite N Ga mountain destination, and activity?

Also, are there any waterfalls in N Ga mountains where one can actually go up to the falls, and get wet?

Thanks!

Hands-down, spending the day in Dahlonega, visiting the artist's shops and galleries and walking the square.

What about Helen, GA? We just returned yesterday from the Loreley Resort in Helen. (Hwy 75) There are two tubing companies that offer tubing down the Chattahoochee River for $3.00 (pink tubes) and $5.00 (green tubes.) You cannot beat the price. The ride down the river is about 2 hours. You can also have a day of fun in the two waterparks. The area also contains some very quaint shopping areas with a German flavor.

There are so many beautiful spots --Amicalola Falls would definitely be on my list as well as the places mentioned in previous posts.

Oh man, last weekend my son and I did the 5.5 mile Homestead trail and then the almost 4 mile Iron Hill bike trail at Red Top Mountain State Park. After that, he swam and played on a rope swing in Lake Allatoona.

I know that's not quite what you meant by North Georgia mountains but it was a 40 min drive and we had a great time.

Visting the vineyards and having lunch or dinner in Dahlonega. Done that a few times now and it's a blast. Buying a few bottles to take home and popping the corks later is fun as well.

What vineyards would you recommend?

How are the lakes around Clayton - Lake Rabun, Lake Burton etc.

My favorite is Blackstock Vineyards.

Regarding the question about waterfalls, try Dry Falls. It's a mile or two across the line near Highlands, but very cool. Check out these videos:

Thanks for all the very useful info. I am also looking to know if Toccoa Falls (or any other waterfall) have walkways for people to walk up to the falls, and get wet. WSB TV is carrying a series called Georgia's hidden treasures, and Toccoa Falls was in it.
