Hey folks,

I am a black male, straight moving to Atlanta in the next 4 to 6 weeks for a account manager position. Due to the prevalence of alternative lifestyles, I want to be sure not to move into one of those areas. Now - I am very tolerant of those who choose such a life for themselves. However, I dont want to end up living in a predominantly "gay" area. So, I have interest in Buckhead.

Can anyone provide any advice?

Thanks!!

Yeah- don't move to Buckhead....lol.

While I wouldn't call Buckhead "predominantly" gay, there's a fairly large gay population there. If it's a concern, you may want to consider other areas, though I don't think you'll find it to be a problem. They only dress in drag and run through the neighborhoods on alternate Thursdays.........lol

Default Thanks Bob!!

Really big and hearty LOL on your response to my question..

I suppose if I move to Buckhead and meets single women from other places - they might express some concern when I tell them WHERE I live...

Thanks for tip - How would you rate Alpharetta or Conyers, Ga?

Nah- they'll assume you've got some $$ though if you tell them you live in Buckhead....

I don't know much about Conyers, and I've only been to Alpharetta a few times- what I saw of it was nice though. We're actually taking the opposite route and heading WAY out from downtown rather than staying intown- we've bought a home in Canton, which is the sticks by comparison (of course, Alpharetta was considered the sticks around 10 years ago....).

Default re: Moving to ATL Soon - Advice

Hi,

My advice to you is be a bit more open minded because everything is not as it seems.

That said, there is a large gay and bisexual minority community in ATL. Some are out in the open and some prefer to live double lives. Remember Atlanta,GA is still part of the bible belt.

Little Five Points offers a lot of diversity, Buckhead is a very popular area for college students and people who recently moved to ATL because there are a lot of clubs.

There are many people that live in ATL who have relocated from CA and NY as well.

So, I hope that helps.

I don't think of Buckhead as a gay neighborhood. Around 10th Street, Piedmont Park area is.

Hey there! We need more STRAIGHT black men in Atlanta. My personal favorite area is MARIETTA which is in cobb county. There is plenty of things to do here. Will you be working in the Buckhead area? Buckhead is a nice area and quite expensive as well. If you tell women you live in Buckhead we will think you have some money and may question your sexuality only because there is quite a handful of "gays" and "downlow" brothas in the area. Overall is a nice place and if you are comfortable with yourself you should be fine if you decide to stay in the Buckhead area.

Good Luck
