This is a first for us.

A crazy bird, probably male, has been attacking his reflection in one window at our house for the past 2 weeks.

We've tried scaring him off many times, but to no avail.

Today, I taped a plastic bag to the outside of the window in hopes the fluttering bag would scare the relentless bird away.

It didn't work at all. He's back on the attack. It looks like he's scratched the glass with hundreds of pecks.

Any suggestions (not involving guns)?

Global Nomad

If you don't have a blind on the window, trying putting up a cloth for a day or two to see if that solves it?

You could also try dirtying the window for a few days, i.e. mud comes off easily

Oh no! We used to have problems with birds accidentally flying into a large window, but we put masking tape on the window and that helped alert them that it was a bad idea. I don't think your bird sounds like he would fall for that.

I wish I had a better suggestion. Really, I just wanted to thank you for the amusing thread title.

Do you think aluminum foil or maybe pie pans (something reflective) would scare him off? Sort of like a scarecrow in a garden. I assume he thinks his reflection is another bird, and this time of year it's probably a territorial thing.

I had a cardinal peck at his reflection for months at my old place and people kept telling me a big lifelike rubber snake would scare birds away. If you have kids maybe you already have one laying around!

I guess the trick is to place it in a tree or somewhere where the bird can see it but your friends and family won't be startled by it!

Paste a picture of a Halloween Cat on your window and spray some Clorox around the outside frame.

Default Crazy Bird Attacking Our House?

Thanks for all the great ideas, everyone!

The target window is atop a door to the outside porch (it's transom size).

Crazy Bird was back in full attack mode again this morning.

So, we lined the inside of the transom window with tin foil.

It has been 3 hours and so far Crazy Bird has stayed away from his evil avian "Doppelgänger".

global nomad,

Your last post really made me laugh. If you get tired of the tin foil, I'm pretty sure that there are some bird sillouettes (sp) that are available to put on windows. They are stick-on things. I recall seeing them in the past and the use was to WARN birds from FLYING INTO glass (a common problem with birds). They used to be used a lot with sliding doors. I don't know exactly how one would search for them online maybe something like, "bird sillouette (sp)"

all the best,
zebbie
