I recently moved to the area from DC and I am considering purchasing a house ASAP. My job is very secure and I plan on being here for at least 5-10 years. Some of the areas I am interested in are North Decatur (Medlock park area), Decatur, Kirkwood...in that order. I would also like the possibility of renting it out if necessary, which is why I was thinking the medlock park area would be good since it is close to Emory University.

1. Budget: 250k -- but want to keep it around 150k-200k
2. House/Condo/Townhome? House
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home): Very Secure, commute to peachtree center area downtown
4. Children(public school vs. private) Single, No Kids
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two: No preference
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not? somewhat important
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood. Family oriented

Any thoughts or opinions? What are the commutes like from these areas to downtown? Any other areas to consider?

Also, I have searched through the forum for previous posts but they are all relatively old and was not sure if anything has changed.

Thanks for the help!

If you work at Peachtree Center, and public transit is somewhat important to you, definitely try to take advantage of MARTA (there is a station right under Peachtree Center)...

Your budget might be too low to buy a house in some of these areas , but you just never know what deals you might find... Inman Park, Edgewood/Candler Park, Kirkwood/East Lake area, Decatur, Avondale or Brookhaven.
