@Pete: Oddly enough, Lovett was our first choice school and the one that has us waitlisted. We actually like the school that admitted her as well and we are fine with it (if that's where our child ultimately ends up). We have replied yes to the waitlist and we are going to wait until fairly close to the 19th to drop off the enrollment agreement and deposit check, so that we can begin moving ahead in terms of getting our daughter ready for her new school this fall. Your feedback was actually really helpful, but we're trying to be realistic and have very realistic expectations in terms of getting off the waitlist merry go round. I completely agree on the randomness of the admissions process. The intangible factors (ie legacy, gender balancing, birthdays, etc.) may make perfect sense for these admissions committees, but seem to have little rhyme or reason for us parents, when we feel like our child is a good applicant ( good JATP scores, good teacher evaluation, good school observation).

In terms of applying again, unless our daughter's experience at her new school is awful, she will remain there until she graduates or we relocate from this lovely state with the extremely challenged public education system. (smile). If possible, I do not want to put my child back through the private school admissions process again. College admissions will come soon enough!

We were waitlisted for Pace last year and received a call about a week after the deposit deadline. Most people apply to at least 3 schools so I do believe that slots open up, EXCEPT in a non-expansion year.

You just have to wait it out. People move suddenly due to transfers, etc., people's financial resources may suddenly become more restricted due to job loss, etc. Or people are on waiting lists at another school and get in . . . causes a nice little domino effect!

And try not to worry -- wherever your child ends up, they will have a good experience, because you did your homework on schools you felt would be a good fit. Nothing wrong with waiting until the last moment to commit, but when you do -- commit fully and don't look back.

Update: We feel extremely fortunate to have made it off the waiting list of our 1st choice, with hours to spare. We are relieved to finally have this portion of the school journey over, with our child at a school that we think will serve her well over the course of her academic life. She is super excited and so are we. Now....to pay for it! LOLOLOLOL

Many thanks to all of those who have provided such sage wisdom on the Atlanta private school admission process.

This old post about being pulled from the wait-list a week after the deposit deadline just gave me so much hope and motivation to remain hopeful about Pace...

Same! Working out the waitlist anxiety right now. I have three kids in all different grades and among the schools we applied to, there isn’t one school where all three are accepted. This is basically waitlist roulette.
