There was a public meeting today for the MMPT at GSU and another on May 3rd at Antioch Baptist Church North on May 3rd. Flyer attached. Go to it and get first hand information from the source before you make a decision whether the MMPT will benefit Atlanta and the entire region.

Not a bad idea. But then again, they are the ones selling it. It will be presented as doing nothing but benefiting Atlanta and the entire region.

Passenger Rail WILL Be in the cards for Atlanta...Thas Why they are building the Terminal Directly Above the Train tracks...If not Comutter rail mos definitely Amtrak would relocate just to have better access..albeit oncethey get the exact routing down due to the awkward layout of the tracks..and eventually comutter trains will run outta there becuase its only logical in my opinion..

Passenger rail is not that easy to do. They don't own the tracks and Norfolk Southern and CSX are more interested in freight and those lines are important for that. That's sort of the downside of being a major railroad hub.

I Understand this Completely...But there gonna have to be some sort of compromise with these freigt companies ...either reduce the number of trains or build more tracks to allow for passenger service...If Chicago can do it ( and theres the busiest freight rails in the country) then Atlanta can surely work out something...becuase something has to be done to address the traffic on the interstates and I beleive commuter trains is the only option Period. When you think about it what major City isnt some sort of Freight Rail hub? And they manage great systems... Los Angeles,Boston,NYC, etc....It can be done!

Finally GDOT is getting serious about Commuter Rail. I agree that Commuter rail will be the only way to get transit to the exurbs. I think Cherokee, Forsyth, Fayette, and Henry Counties would be more receptive to Commuter Rail than MARTA's HRT or express bus.

NOTE:

We already have more than one thread about public transit and rail in the metro area (using the search feature). This topic is about the terminal progress in downtown Atlanta. If you wish to comment on that topic, add to it here. If the thread continues to steer more toward a generic discussion on mass transit in general, it will be closed as we don't need another one.

Thank you.

You don't need passenger rail to justify a big city MMPT. We need a place to connect buses, MARTA, cars, taxis and limos. They should have bike racks as well. If we get passenger trains 20-30 years down the road so much the better -- they'll already have a place to go.
