For Canton: At rush hour, it'll take you a good hour down and probably the same going back, if not more. I-575 and I-75 outside the perimeter are very congested during rush hours.

For Alpharetta: You're probably better off doing 400 to 285 and the same back. However, this too will more than an hour on average days.

If you are planning either of these commutes, try to adjust your hours to be off-peak travel times (maybe 7 AM - 3 PM).

My co-worker did that commute to Alpharetta. It took him 75 min on avg- 90 min or more on a rainy day.

From Canton, I have made that trip in slightly less than one hour. Another day, on the same freeway, I have made exactly 2 miles in one hour. Hope your boss is very flexible and understanding.

Seems like it would be better to find a job and live in the same area, assuming it isn't the ghetto.

Smyrna and Marietta are excellent choices. I'd try to find something as close as possible before 'sucking it up.'

You can get an older home in the Teasley Elem. area in that price which is in Smyrna. Newer homes start in the high threes, low fours. Don't know much about schools in Marietta. But East Cobb which arguably has the best schools OTP is also close by.

East Cobb will be tough with a $300K budget, but you might be able to find an older home for that price.

Marietta is another good option, though schools are not as good as East Cobb. There are some good charter schools though in that region. Housing is also still affordable.
