New to Atlanta and would appreciate any help on getting a job .

I am from a small town of Albany, New York population about 95k .
I came here with a friend visiting and have decided to stay, I have a burning desire to succeed and would like to find any kind work just to get by . I am 23 year old male I have a degree in Business marketing, am Bilingual, and have a background in sales .

Seems like the competition is very fierce down here, and landing a minimum wage job is a challenge on top of cold applying everywhere with no network, or friends/ family etc .

I am looking for any kind of work minimum wage etc is fine . The difficulties and frustrations I have been having is that it seems all the lower wage jobs are very scarce down here .

I am religious and have no criminal record, clean background, no DUI, don't drink, don't smoke, no children single,.

If you guys can give me some tips or direction I would appreciate it from a fellow human being .

Thank You and God Bless

You should not have to work at minimum wage jobs with a business degree..It is not that bad out there. If you have to get a job selling cars or something. Btw- Albany is a small town?

Actually, it *is* that bad out there. Unemployment in Atlanta has still not recovered from the recession and a lot of people are still unemployed or underemployed. It's better than it was in 2008 or 2010, but we probably won't see a proper recovery until 2014. I know people with advanced degrees and years of experience who are still working menial jobs. New college grads have had to move back in with their parents because they can't find jobs either.

OP, I don't have a lot of suggestions, but one thing that can help is networking. Talk to everyone you know, and try to meet new people whenever you can.

From the stand point you're in, Id say move back home. That marketplace won't be good enough for years.

If you can't move home, then hopefully you have a way you can look for jobs more out in the fringes.

If neither of those is an option...well places like Walgreens always have an opening.

thanks for the suggestions, so far . I agree with researchnerd things are really that bad, but I don't have a problem working a menial part time job , to survive but it's challenging to even obtain that ...

Marketing, bilingual and sales... I think you should familiarize yourself with consulting / accounting firms who have overseas business (or international clients) where your non-English languages could be useful.

I think the OP has a lot of positives working in his favor, most importantly a can-do and willing attitude. When I think back to my first job search out of college nearly 25 years ago, it wasn't all that easy then either. Yeah, I found a job pretty quickly but it was less than ideal, the pay sucked and I had to wait tables on the side to make ends meet. Things got better and I ended up with a good career that I've been proud of. But we all had to start somewhere. I think in these "don't move here withot a job" comments posters often forget that. It's kind of mean-spirited actually.

Good luck and God bless to the OP! Keep your head up and spirits high and you'll eventually find what you're looking for.
