Hello everybody

I added my own version on a new loop being built around the metro area ... called I-385. This loop could help ease even more traffic and push all 18-wheelers even further outside the city unless they are moving closer to Atlanta to make deliveries. This interstate would:

Starting at Douglasville moving southeast towards Palmetto continuing eastward through McDonough on around to Conyers

Starting at Douglasville moving north through Dallas/Hiram on around eastward through Ackworth/Woodstock @ 75/575 moving North of Alpharetta and Suwanee crossing @ 985/85, passing south through Lawrenceville, Snellville and closing at Conyers

While I know some of these suburb cities (Woodstock, Johns Creek, Suwanee) would never let this happen lol it was fun discussing this with my family and friends over here today and drawing a little sketch on google maps.

Tell me what you think ....

My link is not perfect; just something I put together. HOw much further out would you want it ... it's already beginning 20 miles outside of 285 in Douglasville about 17 on the eastside in Conyers.

Here is the information about the Outer Perimeter (possibly I-485) that was discussed a few years back

We can dream, can't we?

Oh, and it can't be called 385, as that would mean it is a spur (beginning with odd numbers, i.e: 575, 985). Because it's a loop, it would begin with an even number, like 485.

They could actually use the new Sugarloaf Parkway as some of the Eastern portion of an outer perimeter. This new freeway will stretch from GA-20 to Peachtree Industrial when completed in a couple years. It's a start.....

Your western portion isn't too much different from what Paulding Co. is proposing-from Cartersville down to somewhere around Griffin. They were actually proposing it further out, but the rural counties didn't want it.

If such a road were to be built, it would not be numbered I-385. Three digit interstates (or auxiliary interstates) that are bypasses or loops start with even numbers, not odd. An odd first digit for an auxiliary interstate indicate a spur -- an interstate that connects to another interstate at only one end. So the outer loop would have to be 485, 685, 885, or perhaps something ending in 75 or 20.

There are a few exceptions to this rule, but they have occured after the fact (that is, after the highway was built and numbered).

EDIT: ah I see alco89 has already mentioned this.....

Not to mention the big jackpot to those who own real estate along the route.
