Stephen Chu was specifically hoping for our gas prices to rise to European levels publicly before Obama made him Energy secretary. That amounts to that kind of range.

We already attacked Iran once in 1953 when we took out its democratically elected leader(Mosadegh) because he wanted more profits for the Iranian people, and replaced him with that dictator, the Shah. He went on to abuse his people with our support and we made him rich. But he wasn't good enough either so he was later taken out and replaced by another one. Ever heard of Ayatollah Khomeini? Yup, that guy, and now we are told Iran needs democracy and this government, which is the same one we put in power and did business with isn't good. Same was done to Iraq in the 60s when its elected president, a democrat, was overthrown, executed and replaced by another popular dictator, but that dictator wasn't called a dictator in Washington back then. Ineteresting how so many Americans have such bad memory, play dumb or simply are not even aware of this even though it is common knowledge in the rest of the world.

Good point, buddy.

with all due respect, but that's not true at all. This is Iraq lie all over again. Same propaganda and even the same pretext. I guess some never learn. Iran has the largest Jewish community in the Muslim world, and they are prosperous and proud Iranians. How do you explain that? There is nothing in international law that says someone can't have nuclear technology. All Iranians, Christians and Jews included, support their nuclear program because they feel it is their right and pride to have nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, such as electricity. All the inspectors have said Iran has no intentions to make nuclear weapons. Iran actually signed the treaty to have a nuclear weapon free world, something we haven't done. So please, dont spread this falsehood because I'm sick of this policing the world crap and this right-wing propaganda. We just demolished Iran's neighbor, turned that once prosperous country backwards based on lies and to make money and the same propagandists are trying it again but won't be this easy on this one.

It just angers the war-mongers that Iran is pursuing its nuclear program on its own, with its own engineers and scientists. In case you didn't know, Iran is an ancient civilization(Persia) and they have a lot of educated and smart people as well. The Iranian nuclear program goes back long before this current regime was put in power and we were the one selling them things to make it and had our engineers helping, but Iran has chosen to do it on its own without needing our help and this is part of the reason for this propaganda being spread. The war profiteers are not full and want to make more besides Iraq, so why not Iran next?

GA can certainly be a leader in green energy - with lots of sunlight, an educated workforce, etc it has all the right ingredients

U.S. oil production is skyrocketing and is set to do so more in 2014. It is being said that the U.S. may not only be energy indpendent by 2030, but may become an oil exporting nation.

That's long-term. Of course, in the short-term, falling oil prices are expected for the U.S. and over time, geopolitical events should become less of a destabilizing factor in domestic oil prices.

So the question is, for a city whose engine depends heavily on cheap gas, what do you think it means?

Yes, they'd have to cut production drastically to keep the prices the same. But their volume of sales drops drastically too as the US is not buying. And the non-OPEC producers could further eat into their marketshare. That would send the OPEC local economies into a tailspin as oil revenue drops drastically. In the hopes of restoring revenue, they'd have to cut prices to be competitive and hopefully increase sales volume to make up for the price cuts
Wishful thinking!
