There is also Oakhurst park in that area, which has a dog park next door. The 4/5 Academy has a lot of green space, as does Oakhurst Elementary School.

Decatur also has the "Toy Park" which is run by a local church, and a pretty cool community gathering place. There is a great coffee place a block away, and is always buzzing with kids on weekend mornings. It's essentially a playground, but they also have pretty much every ride-on, push, or playhouse type toy ever made there.

Just an FYI about the City of Decatur, homes move very fast there from what I've heard. As you well know from these threads, it's a high-demand area, especially for it's public schools among those who want to live intown. I know multiple people who have recently bought in different parts of the City of Decatur, including Oakhurst and the area around Winnona Park, and they said that houses would often hit the market and be gone within a week. I've heard (I'm not a realtor, so this is hearsay) that many times houses sell before they are officially advertised. So, if you are interested in that area, I'd highly recommend getting a realtor who specializes in Decatur, and knows the ins and outs of that market and the other realtors working the area. Just thought I'd get that in there for you in case you hadn't heard that before. Maybe others have had different experiences, I'm just relaying what I have heard. Decatur is worth it though - access to MARTA, walking for restaurants, etc., and neighborhood festivals. It's really a great area of town.

Absolutely true, particularly at entry level price points (under $350k), and with new construction or total renovation projects. It's not unusual to see those be under contract before drywall is up. It's pretty critical to be working with a realtor with the connections and local knowledge of what homes are about to be listed. Once they hit the MLS sites, they don't last long.

You're welcome. I should also add that I used to live in Decatur Heights which is just across Sycamore from Sycamore Ridge about 10 years ago when I was single and living alone. I always felt very safe there and would often walk by myself after dark. I really would have no hesitation about living there with a family.

Yes.

I think if you're looking for a built-all-at-one-time kind of subdivision there really aren't a ton in the City of Decatur. But if you're hoping for slightly larger, neater looking houses you just have to drive around and see which neighborhoods appeal. There certainly are some very nice neighborhoods in Decatur, and some that are a bit funkier. We're in Winnona Park, which probably is a tad less funky than Oakhurst, but also pretty mixed in terms of house size and the availability of a garage, etc.

Whatever you find, good luck! Decatur is a great town and we have really enjoyed living here.

Hello CCATL,
Do you friends recommend any particular realtors? If so, will you DM me with the name of the realtor.

Hello Katekilla,

That's great advice. I now know that I was in the Oakhurst section and will explore the other sections this weekend.

I've pulled up a map of the City of Decatur and imagine that the Winnona Park area is near Winnona Park school so that's the only way that I can (right now) see figuring out where the Winnona Park area is located. Are there any major intersections or other landmarks that would let me know that I'm in the Winnona Park area?
