We are considering a move from Minneapolis to the South. We have four young children and are looking for a family friendly, classic community with great schools and close proximity to parks, shops and restaurants.

Budget for home is 750k+. Where should we look within the areas of Charlotte, ATL, and RTP??

I'm assuming we can find great neighborhoods/areas in all three metros, but is my assumption correct?

Job location will ultimately drive the location, but I want to know if I should broaden my search or limit my search.

In Atlanta look in North Fulton County(Roswell, Alpharetta, Milton, Johns Creek), East Cobb, and some parts of Gwinnett County like Duluth or Suwanee.

I can't help you with Charlotte or Raleigh. If you haven't already you should post the same question in their forums.

On Atlanta: If you work in the city, I'd consider the following neighborhoods as well: Morningside, Virginia-Highland and Inman Park. They all are close to strong public schools, parks and great restaurants. If you work in the burbs, the towns that Westau noted could also work, though I would add Decatur, Lakeside and Peachtree City to the list. I also wouldn't rule out Buckhead, though it seems that most folks there send their kids to private school.

As far as other Southern cities to think about: Nashville and Charleston could be pleasant transitions.

City of Decatur. Would also add Myers Park in Charlotte. Charleston is beautiful to visit.

Atlanta has more stuff to do than any of those cities. Plus we have the largest airport in the world so you will have direct flights to just about anywhere that you want to go

It is a well educated city with a broad middle class, lots of tech, urban in design, with top notch public amenities and nature that is seamlessly integrated into the city, extremely low crime, a very healthy population, lots of corporate headquarters and startups, one of the 3 best modern art museums in the country, a vibrant arts scene with a nationwide reputation, more theaters per capita than any American city, lots of modern architecture, and it's clean as a whistle. How many places can you say that about? Bonus: it gave us Prince.
