I would have hoped for a bigger jet but their new 737 are pretty nice. This is a nice option for Atlanta. Concourse T is convenient.

News of late:

- Delta's 747 has been nixed from Japan (no surprise with the Yen directly taking money out of every booking made on the Japanese end) and added to the Atlanta - Honolulu flight. Nice to still see 747 service in Atlanta although clearly its days are numbered (we will still probably see the Air France 747 return in summer too).

- Frontier continues to add flights to Atlanta. We've seen lately the addition of Philadelphia, Austin, Indianapolis, and Miami, among others. They are notoriously fickle about their route offerings, but more competition to and from Atlanta is definitely good news for flyers, regardless of whether you can tolerate flying on that particular airline.

Behind paywall but available on as a "Social Freebie" on their Facebook: Reed: Atlanta is the dominant economy in the Southeast (Video) - Atlanta Business Chronicle

Quote:
For starters, Reed said the airport will keep the world's busiest title for five years, adding that the airport also is doing better than it has ever done financially.

The mayor also called the strong partnership between Delta Air Lines Inc. and the city as "unprecedented," and said it is getting closer by the day.

"The reduction in the number of flights that Southwest [Airlines Co.] has had after acquiring AirTran really has been to Delta's benefit," Reed said. "They've absorbed eight additional gates."

The city is making progress with the airport master plan. The question has been whether the city would recommend first building a new runway — to make it easier for more planes to fly in and out of the airport (most likely Delta's preference); or whether the city should first build a new terminal with additional gates — making it possible to add more carriers to serve Hartsfield-Jackson.

"My sense is that a new terminal will preceed a new runway," Reed said. "We have some idea where that will take place. But that will probably be the priority ... more gate space."

The airport has always been instrumental to the Atlanta region's growth, and not just because of its connections to the rest of the world.

"We have a $6 billion capital program at Hartsfield-Jackson airport that is going to continue to power the region," Reed said. "Part of our region's secret sauce is that there is always a major capital project underway at Hartsfield-Jackson."

Reed also said the airport would continue to promote international travel and its air cargo business, as well as improve the overall customer experience.

"We are really trying to make our airport one that is world class, literally, not just because we are the most successful in terms of traffic," he said.

Miramar, Fla.-based Spirit announced Tuesday it will add daily nonstop flights from Atlanta to nine cities this year, more than doubling the number of routes it operates from Hartsfield-Jackson International airport.

Spirit will launch service to Cleveland, Las Vegas and Orlando starting May 7, to Baltimore, Philadelphia and Tampa starting June 18, to Los Angeles starting Aug. 20 and to Boston and Fort Myers starting Sept. 10. Spirit already flies from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale, Detroit, Houston, Atlantic City, Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth.

Atlanta will now have American, Delta, Southwest, and Spirit on the Los Angeles to Atlanta route.

More routes added by Frontier. Look ATL is back on track to get the World busiest airport in both aircraft traffic and passengers.

Frontier Airlines (NASDAQ: FRNTQ) will add 10 new nonstop routes out of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This is one week after Spirit is adding nine new routes out of Atlanta.
