I'd look in the Perimeter area.

I'd second your looking in Midtown--or in Inman Park or Virginia Highland. I live in Inman Park, and commute up to the Smyrna area every day. It takes about 20 minutes, and you'd be going just a few miles further, maybe adding 15 minutes.

FWIW, as anyone around here will tell you, there is a HUGE difference between the environments of different parts of town.

If she already doesn't like the commute from Kennesaw to Marietta(which is a very easy commute) she would HATE all of your suggestions. Especially toll_booth, Virginia Higland to Marietta is a pain and there is no good way to go.

No way it takes 20 minutes to get back to Inman Park in the afternoon either unless you are leaving work by 3pm.

I would move to the West Midtown area off Howell Mill Road. You will be on the northside of the downtown connector meaning you'll miss all of the traffic and you'll be near all the action. I actually did that move from Kennesaw to that area and that was one of the best things I could've done. I was 100s of times happier down there than up there and although Kennesaw is a great place, I felt the EXACT same way. Now for the commute, Howell Mill will be pretty congested trying to get to 75, but once you get on 75, its a pretty quick drive into Marietta. (JUST WATCH FOR THE COPS!!!!!) They love to prey on commuters on that stretch at rush hour trying to get to work on time. But this would be my #1 recommendation for you, its an absolutely awesome area to live in.

So correct, westau.

Thank you for pointing this out for the OP.

I generally leave work between 5:00 and 6:30 p.m., and it takes me about 25 minutes to get home unless there's some kind of ridiculous accident or other reason that traffic is backed up. Don't know what to tell you...I drive it every day.

Yes, it takes about five minutes longer going home, but even if it takes 30 or 35 minutes on a particularly congested day, I consider that an incredibly reasonable commute.

I second (or third or fourth) the Smyrna/Vinings/Cumberland suggestion. She mentioned she didn't need an urban experience, just not as suburban as Kennesaw. This area will offer the best of both worlds. Commute time is reasonable compared to some of the options suggested in the city. There are many options for getting between the two areas if you stay west of the river, but you sort of limit yourself to 75 as the only logical commute if you go into the city.

I agree totally!!!

Only other suggestion would be Atlantic Station; there are tons of condos and apartments in and around Atlantic Station. But Atlanta does not really have a 24 hour "scene." It is the only major city I have lived in where most Walmart stores are not even 24 hours.

Most OTP Walmart supercenters seem to be 24 hours. The only one I know of that isn't is the one on Cobb Parkway near Windy Hill and they said it was because of theft at that location.

Yeah, the Walmarts that close overnight between Midnight and 6 am usually do so because of concerns from both Walmart and the surrounding community over crime and safety.
