i totally retract what i said about the lack of a significant asian population in texas; i wasn't aware of the large vietnamese population there.
I would disagree. Texas usually elects relatively moderate conservatives to statewide positions. Ted Cruz is an aberration. Texas isn't as knee-jerk anti-tax. They're willing to pay for infrastructure. The rhetoric from the leadership, especially in the legislature, isn't as extreme. I lived for many years in Texas and have been here about 7 years. I was struck by how much more conservative the Republican elected officials here were. There's more of a populist feel to the party here.

Hmmmm....this is an interesting discussion. Although this doesn't directly involve state politicians, you do have that fiasco with the state education board and the textbooks in Texas which is very much a Southern conservative thing and on the other hand, Texas produced mainstream Republican presidents W and HW.

I think I know who fieldm is now. Took me a minute, but the answer has become very obvious. They did a much better job concealing themselves this time around.

The Texas state board of education is an entirely different matter.
