Based on the article, it looks like a large percentage of Tucker residents did not want to be part of the new "Lakeside" city.

"State lawmakers filed two bills late Monday that would pave the way for at least two new cities in DeKalb County..."

I wonder how this will effect school zones. I understand that, these cities will be under Dekalb County Public schools. But, will there be an attempt to keep school zones that match the city borders?

One of the proposed cities is Druid Hills. If that happens, I would bet that city would be eventually incorperated into Atlanta. It would be a way to split off of Dekalb Co. schools. With its only shared school zone borders being the best elementary schools of the Grady High cluster, I would think that Druid Hills' schools would rapidly improve.

Maybe another city will form there?

South Dekalb isnt exactly poor. The 30088, 30087, 30083, and some of 30035 & 30032 zip codes have some pretty decent homes. Much of Stone Mtn, Lithonia and Decatur is middle class folks and not the awful ghetto people think they are.

But the whole notion of every area with a decent school and income feels the need to start their own city and separate from the rest of the county is getting kind of old now. Make it where Dekalb PD and fire department dont respond of any of their calls and make it fair to everyone since they only want their money in their community.

I'm going to start off with stating that I could be wrong. However, my only real gripe with the new city of Lakeside is that my understanding is that their northern boundary will be 85. Currently I believe that Brookhaven's southern border is the north side of Buford Hwy. That leaves an odd unincorporated sliver of land. Surely this would be incorporated into one of the cities, don't you think?
