It will be interesting to see if this comes to fruition. I am not sure if it has the same level of momentum and support as some of the other 'new city' initiatives.

"A Georgia lawmaker is making a push to turn south Fulton County into the city of South Fulton.
“What you have is people who don't live in this area, people in the north side of the county that are still making decisions about what happens on the south side,” Rep. Roger Bruce (D-Atlanta) told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh.

Bruce said the bill he's sponsoring will create equity for the roughly 100,000 residents living in unincorporated Fulton County. The 46-page bill he submitted this week would allow voters to decide on the creation of the city of South Fulton..."

LOL...I just commented on the same story in the "annex" thread. Those damn white conservative Republicans and their evil incorporation plots again....oh wait...this one is being introduced by a black Democrat.

What would the boundaries of this new city be?

Driving down Old Natty daily I can see the possible need for a more local government. You can drive as fast as you want down that road and pretty much guarantee you will never get pulled over. Some more locally focused law enforcment could do the area good.

If they want to get out from direct county governance, South Fulton is better off being annexed by the CoA (northern third), Fairburn/Union City, and Chattahoochee Hills/Palmetto. This just sounds like another "me too" incorporation attempt.

It didn't pass the last time so I wonder if the voters will go for it this time either.

Is this new city rooted in racism? Where are our regular race baiters? I am just wondering!

I hope it passes it would help the area.

Who would benefit from this?

Unless there's some clear advantage in forming a new city or in annexation, I don't see how it makes sense.

Couldn't they at least come up with a better name? "South Fulton," really?

Since south Fulton used to be Campbell County, how about incorporate Campellton and have unincorporated south Fulton annexed?

No one would benefit except the folks that want Atlanta's population to increase just for the sake of population increase.
