I assure you the proposed horse track at the Ted is only in anticipation of gambling being authorized in Georgia (whether it be the video lottery terminals or actual casino's). The investors are looking to shore up the location for the bigger payoff that is not a Horse Track.
Oh, I know they are all begging for the ability to put casinos in to try to survive. I'm just pointing out that they create jobs other than just people working the tables and serving food and drinks. And it takes longer to lose a bunch of money.

And the casinos are the problem in Detroit...

But what about cities like Phoenix, Los Angeles, Sacramento, DC/Baltimore, Chicago, Seattle and San Diego? How is it that it's fine in those places and isn't having such a "moral deteriorating/economy sucking" effect in those places, but everyone assumes it would hurt the Atlanta?

Why is it such a horrible idea for the State of GA?
Because people aren't that smart. They said the same thing with the ferris wheel. Having strip clubs on every block and selling lottery tickets are ok but a casino is considered bad.. blah blah blah. Hopefully our next governor will let us have a casino. It would be perfect in Buckhead, Centennial Park area or near 12th and Midtown. It should be like the one in New Orleans meaning it's just an additional attraction for visitors but it isn't the main attraction

The difference is that people usually don't blow as much money in one sitting as they might in casinos.

Women blow money daily on purses, shoe's, weave, clothes, etc.

Men blow money trying to impress women.

This is ok but blowing money in a casino is bad

That's a bit cliche, don't you think?

Not too far-fetched actually....right or wrong, our entire economy depends on people "blowing their money" on all sorts of frivolous products and services to keep the game going.

A casino is a great way to get people to part with their cash so it can flow into other people pockets and generate tax revenue for the city.

I don't see a problem with a casino attraction so long as its properly regulated and you have sufficient police muscle to keep out the bad elements. Put it in Downtown and it will really liven up that whole area.

Take a visit to the nearest strip club and see if you don't see someone blowing money sitting in one place

I am originally from Mississippi and this same problem is going on there. Casino's are every where around the state yet MS cannot get the lottery. The casino industry is controlling the gaming in the state. You have a lot of people who drive across the mighty MS to purchase lotto tickets in LA. A larger number of citizens want to be able to do this within the state, yet this bill continues to die when it reaches the legislature.

What about all those people blowing money buying houses that they can't afford years ago?
