Hello,
If I will be working off Chamblee Tucker Rd and my husband will be working in Marietta, can anyone tell me what is the best place to look for housing that would work for both of us - someplace where the traffic isn't horrendous, good schools, diverse, low crime, lower taxes, and decent housing $275,000-375,000. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

Two new elementary schools scheduled to open in the next two years, highly rated middle and high schools in the area. Look just north/south of Hammond east of Roswell Rd and north/south of Johnson Ferry between Roswell Rd and Abernathy. The 'working downtown' phrase in your post is a bit confusing unless you meant 'downtown' Chamblee or 'downtown' Tucker. As you might guess, Chamblee-Tucker Rd basically joins the two. |

It looks like I would be on Chamblee Tucker Rd close to Embry Hils & I85 Access Rd & he would be at Dobbins Air Force Base off Cobb Pkwy SE. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'll stick by my Sandy Springs recommendation...still splits the commute and hits most of your wish list...don't think you will find 'low' taxes between the two workplaces. Sandy Springs taxes are the same as when we were in unincorporated Fulton Co. Our neighborhood of Mountaire Springs(formerly Underwood Hills) has homes hovering around $300k but others being replaced by homes +-$1million. Someone might recommend living closer to ATL and the 'connector' of I-75 and I-85 so that you would go somewhat against traffic northbound on 85 and hubby would travel northbound on 75. I have no idea about schools thereabouts. |

Sandy Springs, definitely. Plus, great public schools. Good Luck! |

Chamblee Tucker isn't downtown -- it's on the other side of midtown from Buckhead. Your workplaces are split in two different directions on the most congested stretch of 285, which really stinks. I'd also look at East Cobb or Roswell as an option, or picking a different job closer to Marietta.

I would suggest Brookhaven, Dunwoody or Sandy Springs. Brookhaven would probably cause the biggest commute headache but its a really nice area and the schools are good. Dunwoody is a bit more congested but you would take a little edge off your husband's commute. Of the three areas Sandy Springs probably offers the best compromise between all of these options, but still suffers from some traffic woes.
