They need to move Downtown. Fortune 500 companies do not belong in the suburbs.

There are 14 Fortune 500 companies headquartered in the Atlanta area. Of those, only 3 are in what could loosely be considered "downtown": Suntrust, Coke, and Southern Company. A majority of the remaining 11 companies are adjacent to, or outside of, the Perimeter. Just because you think it's so, does not make it true.

The Home Depot Inc. (NYSE: HD)
United Parcel Service Inc. (NYSE: UPS)
The Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO) - downtownish
Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL)
Southern Co. (NYSE: SO)Genuine Parts Co. (NYSE: GPC) - downtown
SunTrust Banks Inc. (NYSE: STI) - downtown
First Data Corp.
AGCO Corp. (NYSE: AGCO)
RockTenn (NYSE: RKT)
HD Supply
Newell Rubbermaid Inc. (NYSE: NWL)
NCR Corp. (NYSE: NCR)

Genuine Parts is an old line Atlanta company. I don't think they need to or are interested in playing the handout game.

I think they need to be located where it makes the most economic sense. Remember, they report to their shareholders, not to the citizenry of their communities. Are they responsible to their communities? Sure. But they must do what is right for the company's P&L foremost.

Exactly, and as a Fortune 500 company many people own them in their retirement plans and of course want the best earnings possible. They aren't exactly in a business that demands a shiney downtown location either.

One downtown name not on the list is Turner because their parent is not located here but for all intensive purposes it belongs in the group as Turner is one of the largest companies in Atlanta and now represents a majority of Time Warners revenue.

I didn't read in the OPs article or the one on the AJC that they are considering moving due to the Braves moving next door.

There's NO way I would want to work across the street from the new Braves stadium, traffic would be WAY worst during game days.

Traffic is already bad enough in the Cumberland area.

No company would locate there office near that part of Circle 75 commercial area.
