Atlanta Transit Authority Plans $300 Million Bond Sale - Bloomberg
Quote:
The issuance includes $100 million for new signal systems for MARTA rail lines and a new facility for its fleet of vehicles for the disabled, said Kevin Hurley, senior director of treasury services. The rest will refinance short-term commercial loans with bonds that mature in 30 years on average, he said.

This is pretty bad. These are the type of things they should finance currently. How are they going to do expansion when they can't even finance signal systems and a maintenance facility?

It costs a lot of money to maintain these systems. As I recall, when the TSPLOST was under consideration a couple of years ago, MARTA was asking for around $700 million to cover deferred maintenance. Obviously that didn't happen, so I imagine this bond issue will be to deal with the most critical elements.

Good move by MARTA
Quote:
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Board of Directors approved a resolution to refund $56.8 million of its series 2012A bonds, saving the Authority $6.5 million in net present value of future interest costs. MARTA’s average interest savings is $588,000 per year.

*Imagines MARTA going out of business and then all those cocky posts some members make about laughing at drivers on the road while they zip by on MARTA .. and then suddenly there is no MARTA ...*

j/k ... but the thought made me laugh.

85 bridge collapse made me giggle a lttile as well. Zipping by on my own two feet and MARTA while drivers were stuck in congested traffic. But that was real life.

I still managed to beat MARTA.. ..Because it sure don't serve Fayette or Gwinnett.. ..and should some bum torch down a MARTA rail bridge we'll see whats funny when the whole system shuts down versus drivers who atleast have alternate routes!

I wouldn't be so smug if I were you.

You live in a County of nearly one million where your County Commission Chair refuses to allow you the ability to vote to join MARTA. What are you doing about it, besides re-electing her?

I didn't vote .

Besides its been proven over and over again throughout the metro that our opinion means nothing when it comes to the expansion of MARTA, although I have nothing against it coming to Gwinnett..actually..I wish it did come to Gwinnett.

Interesting, I wouldn't find that situation very funny.
