Im sorry but where have you been looking? There are plenty of apartments that have hardwood or hardwood like (can't remember the name) flooring. Many of the newer and self professed luxury apartments have them. However I will say you will more than likely have a hardwood in the living room, ceramic tile in the kitchen and bathroom and carpet in the bedroom and closets set up.

Your best bet in your price range however may be to link up with a realtor and look for rentals being leased by owners (condos, townhouse etc).

I also agree with the above about a loft.

Really? Where are these "newer" apartments supposed to be? You mean that I can get into with my budget? Please be more specific, I would love to know!

And while I love, love, love lofts, my understanding is that they don't absorb noise very well, and I will virtually hear everything in my neighbor's unit.
