Columbus Mayor in D.C. to push high-speed rail to Atlanta - Atlanta Business Chronicle

"That study said that the most expensive of the proposals - a rail line following the rights of way of Interstates 85 and 185 at speeds from 150-220 mph - could be profitable in its first year of operation, the paper said."

when we talk about high speed rail, columbus is important, but it certainly isn't the primary area we need to connect to. a connection between atlanta and charlotte, i think, should be the first priority in this program. as the two largest economies in the piedmont, with atlanta having the busiest airport and charlotte having the second largest banking center in the US, a rail connection could prove invaluable to businesses in addition to commuters and residents.

the second stage of this, of course, would be to connect atlanta to columbus and macon, and to connect charlotte to the research triangle.

As long as they all tie into East Point station, I'm cool.

Don't count on it. It would serve the CDB.

What a giant waste this would be. How many people need a train from Columbus to Atlanta every day and how much would the spend for the 100 mile trip. This idea is so full of fail.

Oh right. a little dyslexic apparently.

all routes in tie in to existing rail ROW long before they ever get to the MMPT though.

Norfolk Southern's natural route is usually through EP because that is where their railyard is. CSX through five points. Although I think they have one in Newnan too.
