I don't expect to find great NY-style bagels (crunchy outside chewy inside) but I found them in San Francisco, Boston, Orlando and even Dallas, so the question is whether it is worth looking around here. Our neighbors are from NY and pointed out two places (Bagel Boy and Goldbergs) but in both cases the bagels were cakey not chewy inside. Are any of the other bagel places around her making a different, more NY-style, kind of bagel?

Though it's a chain, and not in Fulton Co. I enjoy Bagel Restaurants - The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co.Brooklyn Water Bagels | It's All About the Water! off Cobb Pkwy near Cumberland Mall.

I don't really know how bagels are supposed to taste although I could write a dissertation about biscuits.

I think the texture and what not you don't like sounds like what I tasted at Einstein's. There was once a company that I cannot recall the name of that was very popular here where the bagels were like you described - a little crisp on the outside. I can even picture their logo but for the life of me cannot recall the name; I'm relatively certain they closed.

The closest I have tasted to the is Goldberg's. The one I eat at is on Roswell Rd in Sandy Springs/Buckhead which I don't consider North Fulton Co., but maybe you could find one in your area and give it a try: Homepage - Goldbergs Bagel Company & Deli.

Thanks. For reference regarding Goldbergs: They offer a great array of accouterments but the bagels themselves are dryer than NY bagels should be.

Well like I said I did not really know but it sounded pretty close to what you described. They definitely are not cakey inside but I understand that you are saying they are drier than what you prefer. As many places though, the taste may vary by location and keep in mind that the Jewish community in that area is strong.
