Here's a little quiz for y'all to find out if you're truly a yankee or not that I found on the Charlotte board. I scored 39% (definite Yankee).

The Yankee or Dixie quiz

I got 49% (barely Yankee).

Funny, since I was born in New Orleans. I noticed a couple of questions that didn't have my answer so I had to chose the next best alternative:

9. What's that long sandwich with lots of cold cuts and toppings?

To me that's a Po-boy!

16. What is that bubbly carbonated drink called?

A cold drink!

19. What's a drive through liquor store called?

A daiquiri stand, like a snowball stand only they serve daiquiris and you can sometimes buy liquor.

20. What's that bug that rolls into a ball when you touch it? (NOTE: This is not a doodle bug (ant lion), which is the larvae of Myrmeleontidae spp.)

Sorry, we call that a doodle bug, even though it's wrong....

Hmm, results are not very scientific. I lived in NJ for most of my life, and scored a 53%, barely Dixie.

Yeah, we used to call them "water bugs" which wasn't listed either. Oh well- at least it was a few minutes of non-scientific entertainment.

Born in and lived in NY for 31 years, lived in GA for 12 years, 71% (Dixie). That is a pretty strong Southern score!

I was born and raised in Georgia, and I am 96% Dixie - "Is General Lee your father?"

I spent 33 years in the Midwest and 12 in New England......never south of the Mason Dixon except for vacations.........I scored a 53% as well.

This is mildly reassuring though in case the Atlanta job negotiations pan out. Perhaps I won't be singled out for disdain and ridicule after all.........and the grits and shrimp at Murphy's was actually pretty tasty....so who knows.

I scored 50%. Barely Yankee. I spent all of my life in Massachusetts except for the last three in NC. Some questions on the survey I didn't have an answer for at all.

Examples:

Carmel. I pronounce it will two syllables but like Car-Mel.

Aunt. I pronounce it like Ahhhnt. Kinda like when you go to the doctor and they tell you to stick out your tongue and go ahhhhhhh.
