Here's one article that undercuts the arguments of people who say the movie business doesn't help GA.

Someone else had posted it somewhere in this forum and I remembered seeing it. Also, though, sites like Project Casting and On Location Vacations are good to find out some of the info.

It's "In Dubious Battle" with Selena Gomez and Bryan Cranston.

And just up 85, the old OFS plant is also being used as a studio.

And I know of several smaller warehouses on the Westside which are rented frequently for film productions.

My only complaint in the whole thing is how so many of the studios are building far from each other. OFS and Third Rail up in Doraville, Pinewood down in Fayetteville, Atlanta Film Studios out in West Nowheresville, Tyler Perry looking out west...lots of driving!

You're right, samiwas1. It's all over the place, not confined to a district.

L.A. is also like this now, with things being spread out and not concentrated in Hollywood as much as it used to be.

ATLantanites are boosters... Boosters = Persons who actively support or favor a cause with the hopes that its potential nonexistent or mediocre success will change overall perception... They've been boostering since the end of the Civil War.

So, the question remains:

Instead of conjecturing what is or is not, where are the so-called $$$ going to?

Per article on latest action flick Furious 7. This is the GA Department of Economic Development Commissioner take --read boostering...

“The entertainment industry in Georgia has experienced exceptional growth, which in turn has created a sustainable environment for the industry to continue to thrive here,” said Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Chris Carr. “Offering a pro-business environment with competitive incentives and investing in our workforce are just two of the ways that Gov. Deal and the Georgia legislature have committed to the growth of the entertainment industry.”

Former Senator and now Motion Picture Association of America Chairman and CEO? I am sure he is totally un-biased... Not moved by PR and pure boosterism at all...

“The highly-skilled local crew and competitive production climate make Georgia an attractive filming location, allowing the local businesses and workers to reap significant economic benefits.” said former U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd, now MPAA Chairman & CEO. “The continued support and leadership of Governor Deal and the state’s lawmakers on this issue has truly enabled Georgia’s motion picture and TV industry to flourish.”

Key economic impact figures from the production of FURIOUS 7 in Georgia:

·Spent over $47 million dollars towards local businesses and wages

·Hired over 7,500 local Georgians

·Paid over $15 million on hotels and nearly $5 million on hardware and lumber supplies”

Now, how do such figures impact the economy in GA? Who is using these tax credits? What is the Georgia Department of Revenue has to say? Out of these millions how much went to fund infrastructure, education, and job creation?

No one knows who's using the tax credits. Georgia Department of Revenue declined to provide a list of the companies that qualified for the tax credits — and who claimed them on their taxes. The state's Open Records law prohibits disclosure hence none of you here know where this money is going. And any audits, even if they are conducted, can't be shared because of confidentiality laws. The state's entertainment office can only disclose names of films shot in Georgia, and cannot provide information about budgets or the names of qualifying productions. That makes it difficult to track and compare how much GA is gaining in terms of economic activity and losing in terms of tax revenue.

"What's generally been found is that they're not as valuable as seen at first," says Eileen Norcross, a senior research fellow at the Mercatus Center, a free-market think tank at George Mason University. "They end up costing revenue with very little in return. Why not just create a neutral environment that doesn't try to pick winners?"

An independent, objective study of the incentive has not been done and will not be done for GA. As a result, it's hard to calculate whether the state is actually seeing a return on the more than $21 billion it's passed up over the last six years — cash that could potentially pay for education, transportation, and better social services — or just watching money fly away.

Tax Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank that monitors fiscal policy, often points to studies of such programs that have determined that they typically bring in less than 30 cents for every dollar spent.

But like most boosters, "something is better than nothing". It looks good on the Press, it gives the locals something to identify and brag about. Boosters unite!

^Nothing more than a bunch of babble that isn't verifiable, is very poorly written and basically sour grapes.

This is certainly great but to say "taking over the industry".....that's a stretch.
