this a stupid thread but i was just wondering for a friend of mine named Todd he wants to move to New Orleans or Atlanta and he prefer to live in a safe African American neighborhood. also for a certain reason he would like to live in a neighborhood where he would be around many Atlanta natives or Georgia natives. so yeah, are there any safe neighborhoods in Atlanta, where there will be many natives ?

Ummm...I was on the fence on whether or not to answer this question. This probably isn't the place to get good answers on this topic.

Currently, the best areas for safe, middle class African-American neighborhoods are in southwest Atlanta-area, roughly bounded by Cascade Rd to the north, Camp Creek Rd to the south, and Fulton Industrial to the west.

There are a mix of incomes/classes there - from lower, middle, and upper, including homes from higher-end builders like John Wieland. But there are some so-so apartments mixed in.

At the top end, there are a number of neighborhoods with homes in the $400K-800K+ range, especially off New Hope Road and off Camp Creek.

A number of lawyers, doctors, Morehouse and Spelman professors and other mover and shakers in the old-school black scene (and the kids that grew up there) live there, including Kasim Reed, Shirley Franklin, Andrew Young, Kandi from the Real Housewives, and NBA and NFL players.

There are also some solid black middle class areas out east, in South Dekalb, but I'm not as familiar.

Cascade area if you want the city of Atlanta itself, else you'll have to look at some of the southern suburbs like some parts of South Dekalb, Rockdale, Henry, and Douglasville.

There are ones in Middle/South Clayton. Look in Morrow, Jonesboro, Lovejoy/Hampton, and Fayetteville in Clayton. The schools in Clayton are better than those in Fulton and Dekalb.

My wife and I currently stay on Fairburn rd right off Cascade rd and we love it over here. We love the location and mixture of urban and country. Its near plenty of shopping on Cascade rd, Greenbrier, and Camp Creek, and very close to 285 and I-20. Check out the 30331 area South Fulton/SW Atlanta.

There are some great safe neighborhoods in East Point and College Park and they are very near downtown Atlanta - and have access to MARTA. They are often mixed racially, but the overall area is around 60-70% black.

Yes! East Point and College Park by the Marta line...also great midcentury neighborhoods with quite a few notable black residents (including a state senator) in between 75 and 285 in East Point..
