Thanks all. Boy this has been a challenge. We really thought we were going to suck it up and do east cobb and like Waterford Green for example. Then we tried to go to dinner (alone with no kids) walked in a restaurant that was overrun with children and few other options. We felt like we were in no mans land and it's hard to get anywhere. We went to dinner in Dunwoody. We felt more at home there.

To answer some questions..yes we are in Smyrna and I'm aware of the Wave of Excellence, a member and all that. I appreciate the committment but it's not going to be a good ft for us for middle school. Plus we want a swim tennis access which we don't have here.

Regarding the Dunwoody schools, shes in gifted. Looking at the stats, demographics etc I think it would be fine for us. I KNOW the HS is fine. I have no issues with it. I am going to discuss with more Redfield people as they seem to be more public school focused than other parts of Dunwoody (we went through and saw nearly 20 DHS graduation signs). If everyone doesn't go to the same school, that's fine we just hate where we are that EVERYONE goes to a different school (and there are no kids around)

CMmom, if you are on the Fulton side I assume you are zoned for Sandy Springs Middle/North Springs?
We aren't' looking on those districts.

Yes, we are. Your school options are better in 30338 vs. 30350. North Springs has two magnet programs, but I've heard a lot of people say that if you're not in either, the experience is mediocre.

I do know people happy with North Springs but we nixed that area due to the middle school/HS uncertainty. Though we could have gotten a great house there!

We live about 6 minutes from historic Roswell. Plenty of great non-chain restaurants. Seed at Merchants Walk is fantastic. (We have traveled extensively, and my husband is in the food and beverage business. We think the food is comparable to the best restaurants in other cities). The Seed people are opening a new Optimist like place in the Avenue. I would really not rule East Cobb out. The schools are really excellent and the vast majority of people use the public schools, so there is a neighborhood feeling. I'm just curious where exactly you went? Also, as far as getting places--my daughter is currently doing a summer program at Atlanta Shakespeare Tavern. I can be there to pick her up in 25 minutes...so? I think there is a lot to be said for your kid's to have friends who are geographically close. I would not want to be driving all over the place for my kid to spend time with friends, and as she is now close to driving herself, I am glad that she won't have to drive more than 10 minutes to see friends and to have an active social life. The younger kids in my neighborhood can also ride their bikes to each other's houses, the pool, etc. It is great that there are plenty of kids to play with and they have some freedom. Good luck with your search.

This is why I gravitate to dunwoody and Redfield in particular. There are many kids in the neighborhood, they ride their bikes to the pool etc. Many options at Jcc, ymca etc and closer than 25 minutes to pick up. We were looking in Waterford green and Hampton farms only: I do like Roswell and WG was close to that but a bear for my husband to get to Lenox for his office or just any freeways as we travel a lot for bike races

To each his own and I know it's a great school system but not sure it's the one for us.

Sounds like you found the right fit for you. That's great!

What's kind of funny, is that the two n'hoods (RiverHill and Redfield) are only just over 5 miles from one another!

well no sooner did I think we found the fit in Dunwoody than...I think we maybe didn't. Looked at some houses in Redfield and came to the conclusion we'd have to do some extensive renos to anything there and may not even be happy at that. We're not used to an older home. Saw a newer one we liked but no neighborhood per se.

SO............... we may look back at East Cobb at Waterford Gate area with some "newer" builds also with swim tennis. I can't seem to find 'newer' builds with s/t in Dunwoody.

What a process!!!

May I ask why you've zeroed in on these two subdivisions in these two parts of town, when you know so little about the housing stock?

If you post what you're looking for exactly, posters here could help you find it
I love RiverHill, for example, but, if you said "90's or newer" no one would recommend it
