I've been to Atlanta hand full of times, but only because I had to be, I was raised in Washington, GA which is about 3hrs away roughly. Small town, talking no walmart small. I would like to work/live in a bigger city, although I've heard mixed things about Atlanta as it's somewhat known for a higher crime rate when compared to other cities.

Its safer in Atlanta than in rural Georgia because of our job growth. Crime and proverty is bad in rural GA.People from rural GA love making it seem like Atlanta is the only place in GA with crime when per capita most of rural GA has more crime and proverty. As long as you arent in the hood, selling drugs, have street smarts, dont let criminals and hookers into your place you will be ok. Check out northern Atlanta because that is where most of the IT jobs are and that area is safe. Good luck

MARTA is HRT. Faster than light rail and carries more people. Like NY's subways or Chicago's EL trains. MARTA is sometimes a subway and sometimes elevated.

sounds like the light rail in Seattle, goes street level, underground and elevated, although they start at the airport and go into downtown. Which is why I was curious with the MARTA.

Where are you living now? I'm surprised you haven't heard more of MARTA.

Coincidentally, I'm quite familiar with Washington, GA. My father's family has been in Elbert and Wilkes Counties for over 200 years.

Currently in Central Oregon, my goal was Seattle although keeping in mind that Atlanta is closer to family.

No, MARTA is not like LINK transit. MARTA is a Heavy Rail transit technology and is ALWAYS separated from other forms of transportation.

MARTA is a subway and commuter rail system; it's the main transit for the atlanta area. it's the same technology as new york and chicago's subway systems and is an actual train; if you're interested in light rail lines, take a look at the atlanta streetcar— it is a light rail vehicle and they are planning on expanding it all around the beltline, which is a series of old train tracks that encircle atlanta; they're currently converting it to walking trails and parkland, and the light rail will come later.
