MARTA is so unsafe, that in order to ride, they advise taking a self defense class?

At least MARTA knows it is unsafe. It is just sad that this is Keith Parker's response to running an unsafe system. #LeadershipFail

You would be surprised on what people can do when taught proper techniques and how to use the other person's weight.

You might be right. Given your post, I'm going to encourage her to attend! Thank you.

It's not a bad thing to do at all! Even if she can't do much, and even if she doesn't even anything fancy, she'll probaby come away with a better understanding of her abilities and limits and some new knowledge.

Very true. I used to take kung fu classes with an instructor that was 6'5" and over 300 pounds when I was around 12 and 13 years old. The first thing he taught me was how I could take down someone significantly larger than me. You can make it happen so fast they **** themselves in shock.

I believe the idea is that they would use it once they leave the system and the safety of numbers and the MPD. I would imagine most of the crime that happens "on" MARTA happens right outside the turnstiles in the area around the station.

Other than that, I see this more about providing the public with a service rather than it being a commentary on the state of the service.

Not saying crime doesn't happen at all on MARTA (usually of the petty variety), but it is exceptionally safe. The way some people tell it you run the risk of being raped/stabbed/shot/killed every time you step foot on a train. Back here in reality, that has only happened a few times over it's 40 year history.
