There is no way you can guarantee that innocent Americans will not be harmed or killed by allowing these refugees into our country. There is no way to properly vet them. Our safety and security supercedes bleeding heart liberal feel-good policy. Thankfully you're in the ~8% minority here. >

Obama to Accept 185,000 Syrian Refugees, good idea?

So as of now, 26 states are not allowing refugees in, but 24 states are.

And of course anyone can cross freely and easily between state borders. So... if the ISIS guys want to blow up some mega church or Hobby Lobby in Mississippi (obvious primary targets), they'll be relieved to know that they can just take refuge in one of the 24 states (where all the culture and population centers are), then drive right on down there on the highway system.

Again though, I don't know why the terrorists would want to attack the south, or have any real beef with the south. With a penchant for theocracy and religiosity and homophobia and a love of guns, them ISIS actually would fit right in around here.

Please educate yourself, they undergo heavy background checks.

Well, rest assured guys. Background checks will keep us safe, the government does a fine job at screening.

Exactly, it's even worse than that though > TSA Fails 95 Percent Of Airport Security Tests Conducted By Homeland Security: Report

ISIS is injecting well trained agents into the "refugee" stream. They're not stupid and they are exploiting the process to infiltrate Europe and the US. Believing that we have an adequate vetting process is naive at best.

Potential refugees first apply for asylum through the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), the international body in charge of protecting and assisting refugees.

The UNHCR essentially decides who merits refugee status based on the parameters laid out in the 1951 Refugee Convention, which states that a refugee is someone who "owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to, or owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country."

If it's demonstrated that the refugee in question meets the above conditions, the applicant may be referred by the UNHRC for resettlement in a third country, such as the United States, where he or she will be given legal resident status and eventually be able to apply for citizenship.

After the UNHCR refers a refugee applicant to the United States, the application is processed by a federally funded Resettlement Support Center, which gathers information about the candidate to prepare for an intensive screening process, which includes an interview, a medical evaluation and an interagency security screening process aimed at ensuring the refugee does not pose a threat to the United States.

The average processing time for refugee applications is 12 to 18 months, but Syrian applications can take significantly longer because of security concerns and difficulties in verifying their information.

Once they've completed that part of the process, the refugee is paired with a resettlement agency in the United States to assist in his or her transition to the country. That organization provides support services, such as language and vocational training, as well as monetary assistance for housing and other necessities.

This ain't the TSA. Refugees who want to resettle in the United States go through an incredibly rigorous screening protocol. And there's absolutely nothing a governor can do to keep refugees out of their state—once the federal government has given someone refugee status, they are free to move around inside the United States just like every other citizen, as they should be.

This conflation of ISIS with the people they are oppressing is disgusting.

Exactly, an 18-24 month investigation into a person's life carried out by numerous Department of State agencies that go through background checks, biographies, family histories, and health screenings are a whole different ball game than the TSA. The TSA is not the model by which any other security agency operates.

If you (not you magnetar) want to call me a bleeding heart liberal for not wanting to watch thousands left to a war zone, go ahead, but I will not be ashamed of trying to help those who are less fortunate than I. You know, like I was taught in church when I was young. Like I was taught in Boy Scouts. We aught to be letting the background checks do their job, and opening our arms to these people with good will.
