CB2 is closing in Midtown. It's across the street from that clothing store that also closed. It seems like the only businesses that can survive that area area restaurants that serve alcohol past midnight and bars/lounges.

Rent in that area can't be cheap. And for being in such a prime location on Peachtree, it doesn't get that much foot traffic. It seems like the only places that do well in that block there are RiRa and Cafe Intermezzo.

It is not surprising that CB2 has closed. First of all, there isn't a cluster of stores in that part of Midtown to attract shoppers and you have to pay to park, once you get there. The whole thinking behind shopping malls is multi-tasking where all or good portion of your shopping can be done in one trip - CB2, by itself is not enough of a draw. By contrast, the two locations of Crate and Barrel are located in larger shopping centers (Lenox Square and Avalon) with numerous other stores and have ample free parking (at Lenox, they have their own deck.)

IKEA has its own large parking deck which is attractive to shoppers who drive in from far and wide.

Several years ago, CB2 was seen as being at the forefront of the "Midtown Mile" which was seeking to create a retail mecca like Chicago's Magnificent Mile on North Michigan Avenue. Unfortunately for them, other retailers did not follow their lead and locate there. At the present time, Atlantic Station remains the retail mecca for the Midtown area, and in hind sight, CB2 would have been better off locating there - there are numerous other stores and a department store (Dillard's) and plenty of parking.

Title of thread is a bit deceiving. I'm glad that Midtown is still staying open.

No doubt the Midtown Mile has not developed the way the Midtown Alliance planned 10 years ago...they were hoping and pushing to have most restaurants and bars on side streets off of peachtree and have mainly shopping on Peachtree.
