To pay for parks because the park money went to the Cobb Braves Stadium

Love those comments on that article. On point.

For me at least, if this was the mid 90's era Braves in their prime, all this shady deal sh*t would probably be forgiven, because being a mile away from that team's stadium would be pretty awesome, especially with the nice new park and attached development. But this team is the opposite of that team I grew up with. The product is terrible, the ownership is terrible. Nobody cares about the Braves, including the Braves. So that's going to really hurt any positive experience there. We are literally the most abysmal team in baseball.

The restaurants at the Battery will be nice to have, but I don't know if it is going to be worth the added traffic congestion.

What this county needs is 1% or even 1.5% sales tax for MARTA. It could do that and still be a low tax county, with lower taxes than the city and the inner counties. But then we'd also have a generally higher quality of life. Everybody wants low taxes, but you have to strike that balance correctly, with taxes and the need for public services and infrastructure.

I've only lived in the county since recently, but that situation with the parks and the 2008 vote mentioned in that article, that's just seriously shady business, thwarting the public like that.

As far as raising property taxes or other various taxes to cover public park upkeep, I'd have to look at the details of that.

1% sales tax increase to fund a MARTA expansion, you mean the exact thing metro Atlanta residents (Cobb County residents included) voted against four years ago. We reap what we sow.

The only difference between current Cobb county and a post-TSPLOST Cobb county is had it passed, they would have gotten some crummy buses.

You can argue it should have passed if you want, but wouldn't have brought rail to Cobb county.

I'm all for parks, but if I lived in Cobb and could chose where to send additional tax dollars to it wouldn't be the parks.

I saw this thing coming as there were discussions internally about it. Just one of the many reasons I left Cobb DOT.

The thing is, something like 65% of voters said they did want to fund the parks with a $40 million tax deal. Now, the money is not going towards what they voted for, but rather something they didn't get to vote for, and they're being told they'll have to pay more again.

Though, its probably worth noting, it the TSPLOST would have passed, there is no way in hell Cobb County residents would have also approved the new ballpark.

The residents never got a say-so in STP.
