Nice to see that Atlanta is still #1.

Quote:
For the sixth year in a row, Atlanta topped the list of the country's top 10 moving destinations on Reading, Pa.-based Penske Truck Leasing Co.'s annual compilation.
The company created its list based on requests for one-way moves in 2015. Penske noted its list supports new census data from January 2016 that shows the trend of movers heading to the Sun Belt region for the first time since the housing bubble burst and recession, highlighting that the majority of movement to warmer climates of the South is back to a pre-recession pace.

With the low cost of housing and not having to take a pay cut it darn sure is. My husband and I bought a house before we even had jobs lined up and just KNEW this was the place we wanted to have kids at. It seems more people are getting it.

This makes me excited. It is either Dallas or Atlanta whichever city I can land a job in first!

Is this a sign that Atlanta attracts workers in the lower income brackets?

Before you jump all over me too much, I always move my family myself. I'm just wondering if people moving for a high paying job would be captured in this data.

I agree how many layers of data and what is the source, they are using to measure not just people moving here, but how productive are these new residents.

Thanks for posting this. So often we only hear from people who move to Atlanta and complain that it was a bad decision. It's nice to hear from someone who took a chance, made the right move and loves Atlanta. Thanks again.

The low cost of housing is an illusion because fringe exurbs are much cheaper, but the commutes are terrible and before someone jumps in with "it's like that everywhere," - I'm not this in the context of this metro being woefully poor in infrastructure and transit as well.

Not every person commutes in a household and not everyone commutes over an hour to PC or downtown, etc.

The low cost of housing is not an illusion. A two bedroom, two bath in red hot, walkable Midtown is cheaper than a 1 bedroom, 1 bath in the car-centric Seattle suburb of Kirkland. And you can get a 3 bedroom in Midtown Atlanta for what you'd pay for a studio w/ roommate situation in San Francisco. It's all relative. Among major cities, Atlanta is still very cheap. Of the 10 largest metros, only Houston rents are cheaper. And Houston, while a great city, lacks the walkability of many intown Atlanta n'hoods.

Thank you. My husband and I use to pay over 5k a month for our 1 bedroom apt...and THAT was a good deal because of the neighborhood we were in. I giggle at my mortgage and my property value has already increased by a little under 7% in less then a year, and my area is actually QUITE at night time.

I considered myself spoiled now.
