Huntsville? Even the US Space and Rocket center is a joke.

Its actually kind of nice down there. The pace is slower, cell phone service can be spotty. It really is a place to slow down and get away from it all. But only in limited doses.

The Lost Sea, America’s largest underground lake and a registered national landmark, is about two hours up Interstate 75 in Sweetwater [Tennessee]. It is part of an extensive cave system called Craighead Caverns and was pretty much unknown until 1905, when “a 13-year-old boy named Ben Sands wiggled through the tiny, muddy opening 300 feet underground and found himself in a huge room half filled with water,” it’s website states.

Lost Sea is kind of touristy and chintzy
... But it's also very neat and a lot of fun!

As a side note, I discovered it a few years ago after being disappointed on a visit to Capri, the surf was too rough to let people into the Blue Grotto the day I tried to go. Lost Sea is the second best thing! Lol, I really liked it.

Default Close to home: Unusual getaways near Atlanta

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has some ideas for what they call “unusual” getaways from Atlanta during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The first three getaways listed that lead-off the article are in the mountains and foothills of North Georgia, though there are other getaway ideas listed around the other parts, including on the Georgia Coast.

Quote:
Nothing alleviates cabin fever like getting away from it all on a vacation. Since COVID-19 crashed the party this year, many people decided to forgo any unnecessary trips and play it safe staying closer to home. Luckily, you can shake off the corona-rut at one of Georgia’s unique and unusual getaways, which offer an unforgettable break from the norm within driving distance of Atlanta. These out-of-the-box locations offer a reprieve from the monotony of pandemic life while keeping the virus in mind.
