I agree transit is not profitable in the current environment. But if we are going to be subsidizing / encouraging a mode of transportation it should be transit, walking, and biking. Not cars.

Cars simply cannot handle the volumes of people in a city on its own. It is less healthy for both drivers and those nearby, environmentally more harmful, disruptive to the urban environment, and more dangerous for all involved. Places like Grant Park / the zoo should be priorities for viable transit alternatives.

We don't have to deny people use of all the existing automobile infrastructure we have built out, be we need to focus new resources on other modes first as automobiles have received the vast, vast majority of transportation spending in recent decades.

So, then will you just answer the question: are you saying that until all alternative transit needs have been met, no more funding should be directed towards any new auto-centric projects (even if they have other public uses attached)?

Because there will always be a project that said money could be used towards.

Yes, there are few major non-self-funding car-centric projects that make sense to fund from general tax sources given the very finite amount of tax funding we have. We should use the existing dedicated road funding we have to maintain the existing infrastructure as our automotive network is already apparently too large for us to effectively support with the funding it is getting today. So expanding it should be way down that list even if it wasn't competing with other spending options such as transit and parks.

Oh look, 135 new trees for Grant Park. Happy 135 years to Grant Park.

The campaign initiatives include planting 135 trees, performing structural tree pruning on trees throughout 25 acres of the park, installing a new picnic spot to prevent erosion and protect turf and trees, installing 12 more trash receptacles and more.

Yep. Still a huge amount of tax dollars to spend to cut down trees & hide parking spaces that could have gone to providing alternatives like a light rail / streetcar connection to the park instead.
