Hi there folks.

My Brother & I have been touring Baseball Parks and plan on visiting this new park the 1st week in May.

Can anyone tell me where the best Hotel would be that is close enough to the New Park but at the same time in a nice enough place where we can hang out either before or after the game? Somewhere with a Night Life for 40-somethings.

Have never been to Atlanta or Georgia except while driving through towards Florida and would like to see The Best of the Area.

Perhaps what I'm looking for isn't yet in operation and is still a way's off?

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

-Cavs.

The Hyatt House near the new ballpark is cheap and close and I've been there when coworkers were staying there; it is super decent for the price. But I woudn't say that the area it's in is a nice place to hang out with a night life. I don't know, maybe the development around the ballpark will change that. But I'd stay in midtown and drive up if nightlife were important to me.

The problem is the new ballpark is in the suburbs. There's not really anything in the way of interesting nightlife in its vicinity. Stay in Midtown, explore it and the neighborhoods along the Beltline Eastside Trail.

There will be some small element of 'night life' at the stadium, with the new Battery development coming with it.

But yeah, see the game there, then just go in town to experience Atlanta and all its tons of good bars and stuff. Most of the best of the city is only about 10 miles or less from the stadium.

The new Omni hotel at Suntrust Park won't be ready by May, or that would be perfect. I would stay at the Doubletree right beside the Battery. I've stayed there many times and it's a good value for a suite, although I'm sure gameday prices might go higher.

The Battery itself will have about 20 restaurant/bar type places if you want to hang out before and after night games. Open container is allowed throughout the Battery, so that will be my 40-something's nightlife. Then again, I have kids and don't stay out til 2 or 3 anymore.

And you could always stay at the Doubletree, hang at the Battery before/after the game ... then take a cab/Uber downtown at 11:30-12:00 if you want more. Buckhead, Midtown, Downtown are all 15 minutes away.

Doubletree by Hilton and the Hampton Inn are both easy walking distance to the new stadium. I would stay at one of them. Also walking distance to the many, many restaurants/bars that will a part of the battery. If you are here for baseball, stay near the park and enjoy everything that The Battery will offer. No need to have to come in from midtown.

So, what was supposed to take place in May is now going to happen in June instead. Will be staying at the DoubleTree around the block from Sun Trust Park on 6/10 & then The Hyatt Place Atlanta Galleria-Smyrna on 6/11 before we venture off the next day up to Charleston.

Besides being around for the Games on each of those 2 days are there any 'can't miss' visits that we should be sure to include around abouts that vicinity?

Thanks in advance!!

SunTrust Park is the only destination in that vicinity.
Around the block in a car-centric, edge city can mean a horrible walking experience.

Hmm... I would recommend all these:

Taco Cantina on Spring Rd
Orient Express on Paces Ferry Rd in Downtown Vinings (and you can walk to other stuff and check out the village from there)
Paces Mill Park on Cobb Pkwy (US 41) @ the Chattahoochee River- walk on the Palisades trail along the river (canopy shaded)
C&S Seafood and Oyster bar, at the corner of Cobb Pkwy and Paces Mill Rd
Heirloom Market BBQ, where Akers Mill meets Powers Ferry meets the river
Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre (if there's a show that interests you)
The Galleria- there's this cool park area between the office buildings
For breakfast/brunch I'd probably pick Another Broken Egg Cafe in Vinings village, or Original Brooklyn Bagel- Akers Mill Sq.
Canoe, at Paces Ferry @ the river (expensive but really cool)

Then if you want to and if you have time, you can "shoot the hooch" (rent a tube at Cochran Shoals Park and float down to Paces Mill Park.) It's really cool to do, especially if there's a nice breeze. Bring tons of sunscreen though, and apply liberally.
