That's a GDOT maintained roadway.

They exist in US78 in Gwinnett, key intersections in lilburn, and tucker.

Some have been around for quite awhile and some are new.

I guess, I've never driven 78 at night to notice the lighted signs.

Yep! They key thing is most of these listed examples are funded through CIDs and inthe case of US78 it's the evermore CID along that one major road.

That makes no difference. If the zoning / development codes of the jurisdiction the highway passes through call for design upgrades like landscaped medians, underground utilities and decorative street lamps and power poles, then GDOT must comply. This can be seen all over Metro Atlanta. Fayetteville and Peachtree City (especially) are two good examples.

I'm quite looking forward to the new signals being turned on on Memorial; they should reduce the wire clutter quite a bit at some key intersections, and make the signals easier to see. And the new poles are exactly like the ones pictured in Smyrna on the previous page...

I'd think that LEDs make lighting much more robust and weather proof. Especially if you use rope lighting. I'd think that keeping grime off of the lighting elements and choosing a plastic that won't disintegrate from daily UV exposure would be the trickiest parts
