Who needs to innovate when ATL can spend $100 million for 1.3 miles of streetcar?

I do too, and LRT can offer that.

Las Vegas and Mexico city have intelligent buses with dedicated tramways. This Chinese system is just one of many.

Is this post based on any sort of factual reality, or just yet another completely baseless MikeHoncho post? Man, I miss the days when trolls were witty and intelligent.

He's been beating that streetcar drum for a while, and only succeeds in exposing his own callow attitude about it.

Sorry arjay Battery-Electric Buses are just not ready for the big show. Chinese bus maker BYD failed in Albuquerque.
Quote:
Albuquerque recently made headlines in the urban public-transit world when the municipal transit agency, ABQ RIDE, returned the BYD-made electric buses it had ordered, finding them deficient. The city had paid $1.2 million apiece for these buses, and after it returned them, it bought diesel buses from New Flyer for $870,000 each.

Ah, sounds like battery technology still has a way to go. Too bad, as it is a lot cleaner than diesel, and less rackety, too.

The key is to keep an open mind on new technologies and methods. Even though these buses didn't work in Albuquerque, I can't fault them for giving it a shot. Apparently their contractor over-promised, or worse.

You know, I honestly wouldn't mind if MARTA set up a series of trolley-buses like Seattle. Not to replace any proposed LRT lines, but maybe for the ART & BRT routes?

Give them proper bus lanes, and you've got a nice little route. I'd be curious to see some cost comparisons between standard buses and LRT, including ridership potentials. Oh well.

I really don't understand why they would do this. Just run two articulated buses back to back and you'll achieve the same thing.

This is the real problem with how China does things. Yeah they build subways and other major engineering projects like there is no tomorrow, but it's not up to the standard we're used to in this country.
